What Is an API Integration? Plain-English Definition
API integration: An API integration is a connection between two software applications through their application programming interfaces (APIs), so they can send and receive data automatically, for example creating an invoice in your accounting tool when a deal closes in your CRM.
Why it matters for automation
If an app has an API, it can usually be automated. If it doesn’t, automation is harder: we may need to work through email, exports or a different tool. Checking APIs is one of the first steps in any automation audit.
Example
When someone books on your website, an API integration can add them to your CRM, create a calendar event, and send a WhatsApp confirmation, all within seconds.
